People who dream "bigger" inspire all of us to do the same. Here are some examples to inspire you.
Every week since Dream BIGGER was published, I’ve been noticing examples of people who are doing just that with their lives – dreaming bigger. As the author of the book, it’s very exciting; as a human being, it’s inspiring! This week, for example, a young Canadian boy found an unusually large maple leaf on the ground. Most adults would have noticed it, commented on it, and let it drift gently back to the ground. This boy, however, took one look at it and immediately began to wonder. Is this big enough to make the Guinness Book of Records?
He did some research and discovered that there wasn’t even a category for large leaves, so he contacted the Guinness Book of Records and guess what? They created a whole new category just for him, and he now holds the first record!
What if he had simply set the leaf back down and continued on his way that day? Nothing would have changed in his life or in the world. But because he dreamed bigger, he now holds a Guinness Record, and his story has inspired not only those who know him, but others around the world who have heard about it. That’s quite an impact for a nine-year-old Ontario boy!
Children usually have the ability to wonder and imagine bigger and better possibilities. As we get older, that capacity seems to dim, but it doesn’t have to. I’m continually amazed by the stories of people who are faced with tough circumstances yet are dreaming bigger for themselves, believing that their lives can be better and they are taking steps to make it so.
One of my bigger dreams is to personally present 50 copies of Dream BIGGER to Oprah Winfrey to give away to her studio audience at her final show. Why? Because she’s a woman who knows how to dream bigger and loves to inspire others to do the same. My book belongs in her hands and I believe it will find its way there.
Another dream of mine is to see the expression “dream bigger” become part of our everyday vocabulary. Already I’ve been hearing it from friends and family in the course of conversation. When I become discouraged, my partner says to me with a smile, “Dream bigger, Julie!” At a recent gathering, one woman was talking about an opportunity that had just come her way. She wasn’t sure what to do with it or how to make it work. Another friend said to her, “Dream bigger. You have no idea where this could take you!” It’s a simple yet powerful statement that immediately connects you to an unlimited vision for yourself and your life.
