Of Veteran Benefits!
Republican Senator Tom Coburn is holding up very important legislation that would grant Veterans several important benefits. This is really shameful. Our Veterans deserve to be treated better than this! Sign the petition on vetvoice.com then go to Coburn’s website, which you can get to from veteranstoday.com, and call to give him a piece of your mind. Let’s get the bill (S 1963, the Veterans' Caregiver and Omnibus Health Benefits Act of 2009) passed in honour of and in time for Veteran’s Day, 11/11/09!

“For years, conservatives have claimed the mantle of being more pro-military, pro-veterans than progressives. But their actions and record paint a different picture. From the Bush administration neglect of and cuts to veterans' health-culminating in the exposed tragedies at Walter Reed Hospital-to the underfunding and resourcing of our troops in the battlefield, it's clear that for years veteran and troop well-being wasn't a high priority for conservatives in power. Today, even as President Obama is trying fix these failures, conservatives are still preventing our nation's veterans and their families from getting the support and care they need.” ~ National Security Network

Veterans, and soldiers, suffered greatly in the eight long years of the Bush Administration, from lack of proper armor to fight a war, to deteriorating conditions in military and VA hospitals, to massive yearly cuts in veteran benefits. And I saw very few protests from all these now concerned citizens in those eight miserable years.

The right wing claims to be "pro-military." They are just "pro-war.' The veterans mean nothing to them. My family has served in every war in the civil war. The last Republican to treat them with any respect as a veteran was Abraham Lincoln. Every Republican since then has tried to cut their benefits.

A sudden concern for veterans...how nice. Ghee, it would really be nice if they had some concern for our troops in combat in Afganisan...and now also The United States. Maybe that guy that was under "gunfire" can provide his expert military opimion on the matter.
