Shortly after the release of our book “Universes Beyond the Visible ~ Elements of Dream”, we received a most exciting telephone call from the management of Lello – Chardron Bookstore – a magnificent monument, inaugurated 100 years ago in the city of Porto, Portugal, “as a tribute to the Love of Books” (José Maria Lello).
To our delight, soon expanded to the most genuine awe, the manager of this extraordinary bookstore informed us that not only our book was being featured and sold there, but that it would be their pleasure to plan, with us, a special event for the promotion of “Universes Beyond the Visible ~ Elements of Dream”.
We then attended a meeting, during which a first draft was drawn, and soon other meetings, including other people - namely belonging to the artistic world – followed. Many ideas were shared and enthusiastically discussed, and the configuration of the event began to take a definite substance and essence – and a very thrilling one, too!
We finally settled on a “soirée” that will bring together symbolically, on May 19th, from 10 p.m. through the night, four elements of the Art – dance, expression, music and image – and the four elements of nature, which are the main theme of the book – fire, air, water and earth – in a blend that we have called “Elements of Dream”, like the subtitle of our book.
The element “image” will be represented by a display, at the Lello – Chardron Bookstore’s gallery, of photography by Joseph* - including a selection of photos featured in the book and a new and outstanding collection, also around the theme “elements of the universe”; in addition to the photo exhibition, the public will also be presented with a contemporary ballet performance (the element “dance”) enacting the four elements Fire, Air, Water and Earth, to a background of totally new piano pieces specially composed for the event (the element “music”), while texts from the book “Universes Beyond the Visible ~ Elements of Dream” are recited by an actor of the Porto experimental theatre (the element “expression”).
The attendance of several other authors and poets from Portugal and Brazil is expected – specifically, of other fellow members of the “Escritas” writing group to which we belong; so, the “soirée” will also include a space open to readings of other poems and poetic prose authored by these writers, to honour them and thank them for their presence.
We are feeling extremely happy and grateful for this fantastic opportunity which has been offered to us; and should this event come to be a success, as we hope it will be, the fruits of such achievement will be dedicated, with all our love and encouragement, to all artists of all creative areas and all ages, everywhere – as a reminder of the importance of Dream and of believing, like a poet said, that “Dream is a constant of life… and each time mankind dreams, the world does soar and goes forward, like a colourful ball between the hands of a child” ~ (António Gedeão, in “Philosophical Stone”).
