What is “peace”? I heard someone describe it this way. Pour yourself a tablespoonful of cooking oil and taste it. Doesn’t taste like anything, right? Doesn’t have a good or a bad taste but one thing is for sure you won’t taste another spoonful.
Peace is the same as a tablespoonful of cooking oil. It doesn’t have a taste. So for people who have been seeking peace, they do not like the taste of it when it comes. Once they have it, since it has no taste they spit it out, so to speak, and never seek another spoonful. They return to their previously more flavorful, spicy lives with all of its ciaos. Which is far more exciting and flavorful than a peaceful life in which there is nothing going on, it’s still.
To begin to obtain peace and develop “a taste” for it try this daily exercise. Take few moments to yourself. During this time take your mind off the outside world. Let your job rest, let the debt go, let the sickness cease, let go of everything. Completely focus your mind on the life you desire to have. Allow your mind to rest on what it would be like to feel healthy. What it would feel like to have all the money you desire. What it would feel like to have the absolute best life that you can imagine. Hold these feelings. Make them your own.
As this moment is coming to an end as you return to your existing physical world demand of yourself to keep this feeling. Let it completely fill your body. Remember peace comes from within do not look for it without. As you make this your daily practice this will become your natural state of being and you will begin to enjoy the bland taste of peace over your previously spicy life.
