I have written this lovely little article and fun example of a test for yourself and tips and hints based on NOTES that I took while attending a learning conference about Women and Management and the Skills you needed to become successful. During the conference the presenters (and there were more than one) compared being a Manager (Boss) with being a Leader (natural born and learned) and how Women fit these roles. So here are my notes from 1993!!!!!! By Diane C. Hundertmark

Okay you can all guess and comment how much I learned and have achieved and also wonder and comment how these Skills and Qualities work for WRITERS!!!!   Have fun!!! Oh, and comment please. For the form in the attachment check where you think you have abilities and then read the rest of the article.  I have also included the full article in the attachment.

6 Steps to Leadership

1.     Learning

Ø     Formal – Experience – Role Models
§        Desire to improve and grow
§        Listen with an open mind
2.     Envision your future self
Ø     Imagination (break your paradigm)
Ø     Visualize that person you want to be (over and over again)
Ø     Have the confidence to become that person
3.     Develop your action plan
Ø     Goal setting (short and long term)
Ø     Career commitment
4.     Gain the support of others from these 3 areas
1) Immediate team
2) A mentor
3) Personal support system at home
You also need to have:
·        Visibility
·        Enthusiasm
·        Professional image
·        Persuasion
5.     Implement your plan
Ø     Assertiveness
Ø     Risk taking
6.     Monitor and evaluate your progress
Ø     Be objective
Ø     Be flexible
Ø     Have strength to accept failure
§        Failure is not an event but an opinion
