Rev Davey my adopted Uncle!
By Donni-Jay De-Ville

I would like to welcome my 'adopted' Uncle who has known me since a very young age.

For a while now, my 'Unc' Rev Davey, has been toying with the idea of doing some writing in here, but has been making the excuses of not having enough time, and then saying that no-one would be interested in reading anything he has to say.
I however, got him keen enough to give it a go, and he is quite enjoying himself.  He likes the contact with people, but isnot as sociable and  has slowed down a little due to his 'vast' age, he says.

When I was about five and showing Unc Rev my stories, for him to correct for me, so that I could sell them for pennies to some of the children in the playground, I decided I wanted to be a writer.

Unc Rev is reasonably youthful.  His mind is still young and he does have more mental energy than physical, but he is still a very independent person.  I am keeping on at him to put a photo of himself in his site. He prefers the one with Christ on the Cross, to stay on his Bio page though. I shall secretly have to take a picture of him, the next time he visits. Might be able to add it into one of my poems, or articles.

He looks a bit like a younger version of Father Christmas.  With beard and moustache trimmed, so it's not too long. His eyebrows are a bit bushy and he is a large man. Large boned that is. Big shoulders and about 6'3".  He doesn't slouch and his tummy is surprisingly flat, (but then he used to love to wrestle and box)  He still exercises, he tells me.  Looks like he must do too.

Unc Rev has an accent that would not be recognised.  Mainly UK, but with various undertones of dialects from all over the world.  Sometimes, he sounds a bit Canadian. He's a very open man, but doesn't like to talk about himself very much, as he says it bores him. But, he is always interested in other people.  I just wish he had been about at the times I got into serious trouble, but that was not to be.

Luckily, on meeting up again, we have found that we are both eccentric (him more than me, as he is older!)  Also, we still have the same views on religion, though I am far more for the spiritual side and still would question Christianity, but I have had enough debates on this subject.  We both have similar views on religion and he understands my frustration and anger at what I feel is going wrong in the world.  Rev hates injustices as much as I do!

We had kept in touch.  Mainly through him tracking me down, but since coming to the States, I have felt closer to him, though he still lives miles away, in California.  I am in the process of talking him into coming to live nearer to Rocky and I.  He lives alone, but has many friends phoning him and when he feels sociable, he calls on them and still visits various churches.  He likes the ones where they sing gospel music.  Rev always joins in, as he loves singing and has a deep low voice.

This will have to do for now, but I may add more later.  He's got some great stories of things that happened to him whilst in the jungles.  I must find out which stories he wants me to tell, or talk him into telling them himself, on his site. (He nearly got eaten by Canibals once!) Obviously, I don't want to embarrass the Rev by spilling things he would rather do himself. (Or not at all!)

I am so pleased that Rev has joined the Authorsden family.  I hope you will all get to like him, and make him feel very welcome!

If you're reading this 'Unc'

     "WELCOME TO YOU, REV DAVEY!"

This is a great introduction to your Adopted Uncle Donni-Jay. I’ll have to drop by. It’s obvious he has had tremendous influence on you. Thanks for sharing your work. I will sit down and put a complete sentence together very soon. I have just been so busy trying to get my song back on the charts, where it belongs. Drop by and let me know what you think of it, if you get a chance. Take care and be well. Oh yeah, by the way don’t get Rocky too worked up… lol. Only kidding Donni-Jay, have fun while you can, life is too short!
