Cowards who avoid Debate!
By Donni-Jay De-Ville

Don't you find that there are some people who really get up your nose with their piety?

Well, I certainly get very annoyed when someone who had been stating quite categorically, that so and so is THE only right way and then states, that they will debate with anyone on this topic, AND then as soon as they are given this chance, the first thing they do is, avoid giving straight answers, OR, refuse to talk about the obvious, as in Scientific proof of how the world started. Which would, in this case have a HUGE bearing on the topic which had the invitation, of the debate!

Scientists, are NOT working for Satan, as some people, not very far from our pages thinks. Science is proof! And science has much to do with our lives. So, how can anyone with half a brain, never mind someone who thinks they are highly intelligent, because they were trained as a teacher for so many years, not acknowledge the truth of 'science?'

How many of us have had teachers, who were in fact quite stupid, when it came to common sense? Just stray away from their subject and they can't converse with you! And, it's these very same people who try to tell us that WE are stupid, when it's US, who through thinking for ourselves and using logic, can come up with a very good argument.

How many people do you know, will refuse to see the obvious when it's right in front of their eyes? How stupid is that? How can people deny the truth, and pretend to themselves that it wasn't so? I not only feel sorry for these kind of people, but I feel angry at their stupidity, for it's these kind of people that hold back progress!

New ideas and options have to be accepted, as anything that remains still for a certain amount of time, becomes stagnant. As with love. It needs to grow, even at a tiny degree, or it will become just  another complacent emotion. Religion is one where awareness and intuitiveness should also grow. Experiences from others as well as ourselves, are the way that our spirits grow healthily, but if thoughts are totally confined, without any room for movement, than they can become distorted and twisted. Which I know has happened to at least one person who should know better!

In fact, I think people like this should be shot!

Donni, I just want to tell you that it's your personal attacks on me that closed my mind to you and the one that you call a friend (He sounds very much like you). I can't debate anyone while they're belittling me. It serves no purpose. I'm sorry if I hurt you, but I cannot become a Humanist, and I believe that's my right of free choice. You also have free choice. I can't become a carbon copy of you, and you can't become a carbon copy of me, but we could still be friends. When someone visits another's home, it is only right to abide by their rules. I'm no monster, I'm just a lady who loves God and believes in abiding in His rules in my home. Why does everyone hate me, because I am the way I am? If my writings bother you so much just don't read them, and Donni, don't forget that you were the one who once told me that my writings help you through some very difficult times. I don't hate you, Donni. Can't there be peace between us?

Donni,

You make a lot of sense when you say people shouldn't close their minds and that they should be open to new ideas, be progressive and not be limited. There is no excuse for dogmatism and blind following as God has given each one of us a brilliant mind to explore the life around us. Moreover, there should be no quarrel between the Maker and His creation, the universe, after all God is the Maker. http://www.beconvinced.com/SCIENCEINDEX.htm

On a personal note, reading your article, I did notice some personal attacks on a certain fellow author, was that necessary?

By the way, you've a very creative bio, how did you do it?

Best regards,
Safi

You make EXCELLENT sense Belle! I only wish everyone thought like you do! I must not go around threatening to shoot people! lol. But the person in question can not see things our way, and has said that if one does not praise God (in the way that she does, with her beliefs) that they are working with Satan! Which is FAR worse than being called a Heathen! Good people who help each other do not count with her, if they don't worship and keep every old fashioned rule from hundreds of years ago! Obviously as progression and civilization has come forward, so should the thinking of humans. It's still possible to be moral and proper, but to indulge in being a 'HUMAN' occasionally, surely that can't be wrong!
Thank you for your very intelligent words Belle!

Donni many people close themselves off in a very small compartment and to look at anything that doesn't fit their very narrow theology frightens them with eternal damnation. These people are certainly entitled to their thoughts, beliefs and they are entitled to express them as well. What they are not entitled to do is to degrade others who disagree with them. No they don't need to be shot, they need to be respected just as you and I need to be respected but they need to be told in no uncertain terms that simply because they see something a certain way does not mean those of us who don't are damned heathens. Respect is the key for all concerned. We don't have to believe alike but the God we often argue over has told us to honor all men, for they are made in his image. I think God is very sad when he sees people degrading, disrespecting each other over spiritual matters. A closed mind will remain just that.. closed, until they finally realize there is a diverse world and things they don't know beyond their very limited understanding, when they stop acting like martyrs when someone challenges them and open enough to at least consider what the other person is saying. No one has possession of total and absolute truth, we only have a very tiny speck of it and it would behoove us to explore spiritually in confidence and enjoyment rather than to sit in a corner with our narrow theology pulled tightly around us to ward off everything and one who doesn't parrot our views. Sorry this is long but I had to say it. Debate serves no real purpose unless it is entered into openly and honestly with a view to finding truth, it's not for beating the opponent into submission to your views and not for degrading either side, people who are closed off to anything beyond their theology can not enter into a effectual debate because they can't bear to listen to and consider anything that differs from their speck of truth.
