I wrote a story several years ago. In light of reason events, I thought it might worth repeating.
A Good Thing?
by J. Vincent Martin
It’s a good thing we defeated the Nazis and the Communists, back in the last century. Can you image what it would be like today if they had won.
We’d be living under a government that controlled every single aspect and facet of our daily lives.
No doubt there would be satellites revolving around our planet reporting exactly where everyone is and what they are doing.
They’d probably be cameras everywhere, watching us, to make sure we were following the rules and thinking the right way.
Our schools would be forced to indoctrinate our children with the latest party whim. God would be deleted from our vocabulary, and sooner or later houses of worship would become party community centers.
Then again, TV and the news media would be nothing more than propaganda machines, brain washing us every second of the day.
Alas, by now they would have also conquered the rest of the world and America would just be a piece of geography on a map.
Yes, there wouldn’t be anything left worth dying for anymore. Then again, there wouldn’t be anything left worth living for either. So I guess it’s a good thing we won and are still one nation under God, and The Land of The Free.
We did win, right???

So Ron, you feel the tens of millions of innocent people slaughtered by the atheistic Communist Russian, atheistic Chinese Communists, and atheistic German National Socialist Regimes somehow don't count because those people weren't murdered in the name of God? I'm afraid you are seriously historically mistaken about atrocities. Far, Far more people were murdered in the last 80 years by these Regimes then in all of the wars in recorded history combined...both "religious" and non religious wars. I myself would never harm anybody for God or in God's name. Nor would I ever follow anyone who says God told him he wants me to do harm to certain people. You see I believe God can take care of himself. and if he ever personally feels someone needs to be harmed, he sure as heck don't need my help.
...and yes, people are curious alright, but we don't need machines to spy on our neighbors. In communist Russia and Nazi Germany they found children to be quite effective in satisfying their curiosity...."Have your parents ever said anything bad about the government or the leader, children? You must tell your teacher if they do. What about your neighbors, have any of them said anything bad about the leader?" I believe technology should be used to improve lives and expand freedom and liberty...using it to enslave and control people does not improve lives, and when it is used for that purpose..it certainly does not expand freedom and liberty.
So, you have nothing to hide...are you sure about that? Remember, 70 years ago six million Jewish people in Germany thought they had nothing to hide, and had done nothing wrong, Unfortunately, the government disagreed...and the government controlled the technology of the day. |

Since when is being, “under God,” such a good thing? More atrocities have been conducted, like our slaughter of Iraqi citizens with, “God on our side,” by religious fanaticism than any other force. As far as surveillance goes, human beings are curious, and if they can find out something, whether it be gossip, or factual information, we will build machines to find out. Sorry but technology moves that way and we will have to deal with it. I have nothing to hide, do you?

Almost like seeing into the future, isn't it, John?
One good thing about the next presidential elections: Even if the Democrats win, anything and any one will be better than what America has now.
