Last Column in Florida Today about the state of our Union, going backwards 35 years

Pardon me,

I thought I was a pretty political savvy guy. I would watch the news and check out CNN and Fox news on the Internet to see what was happening in the world. In the news out of Europe today gave me a case of déjà vu. “Putin threatens aiming missiles at Europe.” Holy cow, it just struck me that our current president has moved her country 35 years into the past. 35 years ago the country was at war. East Germany in East Berlin or separated by concrete and barbed wire. We were in the unpopular war in Congress are trying to stop funding of it. Russia had nukes pointed at Europe. The country was running a great deficit, and prices were rising. United States was facing a record high in the countries that disliked her politics. Domestic unrest was on the rise, we were fighting a guerrilla war door-to-door. Only to leave the area that we just cleared and letting the insurgents take it back. It appears we do not learn a lesson from 35 years ago. For brief period we seemed to get it right. We want from a deficit to a surplus, jobs increased in the United States, and the people of America seemed genuinely happy to see the erasure of the national debt. People were buying houses durable goods and going on vacation. Fast forward to now and we have a record deficit. We are in a guerrilla war fighting door-to-door and when we cleared area we got back to the insurgents. Congress is fighting to cut the funding for the war effort. People hate us again. The price of houses are no longer affordable for the majority of the public. Elderly have to decide whether to eat, buy their medications or buy gas for their vehicles. I guess this old Indian just woke up. Smoke signals were flying folks, it is time we paid attention. Register to vote and then act upon it. Because if we don’t try to make a change others will make their views heard.

So very to the point.

I had a friend once tell me that she didn't vote because "it doesn't do any good because they just cheat anyway." I told her that was a poor excuse because: 1. It's the only voice we've got, and 2. It only took five minutes for me to cast my vote last election. I'm sure she's 'wasted' more time in line at the grocery store, why not give the vote a chance?
Great article!
