The Editorial Department is So Much More

Do yourself a favor: get professional help with your writing before submitting it anywhere.

"The Editorial Department" is a literary marvel. A company exclusively dedicated to the business of writing, I would highly recommend it to anyone seeking to polish their writing and get a reality check on their project, period.

I came across the company quite accidentally a couple of months ago when I happened to re-read an old e-mail from an author friend. Well, that e-mail referenced "The Editorial Department" and, being the Google-iscious darling I happen to be, I decided to check them out.

What I found was so impressive that, well, I felt compelled to seek their assistance with my second novel. I was not sure what the outcome would be in this uncertain world of bad grammar and plurals ending in "apostrophe s"  - the ultimate faux pas and indicator of the degradation of the English language, if you ask me; but I was absolutely certain that I would unleash not a single word on the world for a fee (aka a novel) without the assurance it was everything it should be and then some.

Look at it this way: why are you going to market a product and not be assured it is the best? You do a disservice to your client. AND, and and...above all, you make all "self published" authors look REALLY bad. It is fine to cry around about the cost of hiring a reputable, respected, qualified editor; but in the end, it is well worth every cent to hire one. The result I received after submitting my MS was, bar none, surprising. I was, and remain, elated.

"The Editorial Department" offers editorial services "plus." The staff is lovely and professional without being stuffy or elitist. They are not a scam organization; they are not prone to make inappropriate promises; and they deliver. On a professional satisfaction level I would rate them at, hands down, 100-percent.

Check it out for yourself: www.editorialdepartment.com. If you are a novice or fancy yourself the next Carson McCullers, it would be doing the world a favor to have them look at your work. Spend the money and perhaps you will learn why you never, ever, ever form a PLURAL with an APOSTROPHE S - i.e. - attorney's; jurie's, dog's, cat's ARGH!

Give them a shot - after all, what do you have to lose except some bad writing habits?

This is an excellent article! I'm so happy to see a writer discussing this issue. Believe me, it is extremely hard to say to a new author that we will not review your book due to the lack of proofreading and editing. Just imagine what a publisher's staff is going to say!

I'm asked for editor referrals all the time, so thanks for your excellent reference of this group!

I agree, Malcolm. Thank you for the input.

Good piece. Yes, getting a professional editor is important but finding the right editor is key. I hired an editor and she did her best but I don't think she really understood my book very well, or what I was doing with it and she didn't ask me anything about it. Result - I rewrote the book again twice after I got it back from her. Malcolm Watts " Reflections from Shadow"
