A response to "gossip" within this forum. May the invisible lose its terrible power.....part 1 of a non-fiction book in the process of being written.

Within these walls I live, and within these walls I have grown weary of my pitiful cries that echo and cling like mildewed damp to my mind.

Oh the temperament of the artist can be a real caution my fellow authors. About a month ago I was told that gossip was circulating within the confines of this medium called Authors Den. My friendship with another author in here was being gossiped about. I was asked by another author to curtail my writings on certain subjects to avoid further gossip. I was hurt and humiliated that this “talk” meant that others thought badly of me. I railed and raged at the invisible walls that is gossip. Finally, This morning I have resolved within myself this conflict.

In the world of writing there will always be some who cannot believe that the words written are those of both experience and imagination. There will always be people who imagine that what is written today happened today, or that all writings are garnered from real experiences. Still I look back at my personal writings and I see memories and imaginations flight. Some are real poems and stories, some purely fictional, but most a combination of real memories, imagination and colored by the mood of the day.

I was so angered by the talk that I canceled my updated author status with AD and have not contributed anything to its archives ever since. Now I understand the error of this. I will explain my reasoning why.

Firstly, being asked to not write on certain subjects is quite offensive to me as an American. Our First Amendment Rights guarantees freedom of expression! Secondly, I am the only one who knows my intentions. At best others observations will be a guess or an assumption. In other words, this is my dream, I must live my dream and I intend to do so. Others opinions are a part of their dream, and I will not live their plan for me.

Tomorrow........ part 2

Maybe we are too thin-skinned. We'd prefer to be like the unfeeling brutish folks (nothing phases HIM!). And we really cannot be totally objective (we are not logical like computers). So, we are thin-skinned and we get our feelings hurt too easily ... and that is what makes us into writers! Come to think of it -- we would not have it any other way. Write on!

You cannot control another's action, but you can control your response to those actions. Woo hoo! You go, girl!

Sandi, I enjoyed reading "Big Deal" I surely believe it is true. Although written some time ago, I agree with Jessica.
On another note, I totally enjoyed your short stories about dating. Thank you for sharing your writtings. Best of luck in all you do!

Brava Sandi! While I do not write in this venue, my writing experience as taught me a few lessons. One important lesson was this. Ther are writers, and then there are jealous wannabes. Those we call critics. Hang in there my friend!

I can post that my poem is fiction, but readers will still believe it as nonfiction. If someone has something nasty to say about me, good for them. I always set my eyes on my positive readers.
Some readers read only what they want to read in a poem, story, etc..readers have a bad habit of skipping over a important part of a read, like is it fiction, or non fiction.
I never respond to those who like to throw shit into the fan. There're not worth it.

Good for you! I am aware of the misconceptions that went on and I've told you to let it go, people don't know every aspect of our lives. We are all misjudged at one time or another, I guess it's part of life.

I do believe though that the way that we handle it it the key to our success. Response is better than reacting. I know that you know this, I am talking to myself as well. ;)

I'm being slammed at the moment and I've decided to let it go. My life is too busy as is yours. Here's to us!

All the Best,
Love, Janet xoxoxoxoxo
