The Sacred Word
By John P. Johnston
The Aum is a reflection in the lower three worlds of yet another Sacred Word used by the Ascended Masters. That Word can only be known by an initiate of the fifth degree. When that Word is chanted the Master is put in rapport with the Lord of the World and His Council of Nine. The Sacred Word used by the Masters brings harmony and balance to world conditions, while bestowing healing upon both individuals and groups dedicated to spiritual enlightenment. When used in group formation by the Masters, the Sacred Word has a powerful impact wherever it is directed. Each year when the Masters assemble for the Wesak Valley Festival at the time of the Taurus full moon, and for the Christ Festival at the time of the Gemini full moon, they use the Sacred Word to facilitate the release of important energies to humanity. Those energies stimulate the unfoldment of human potential, and anyone who aligns with those energies at the time of their emanation not only receives a major blessing, but also participates in the ritual.
The Aum should be chanted out loud for maximum effect, although mental enunciation also works to good effect. The Sacred Word used by the Masters is always enunciated mentally, creating a powerful vortex of energy upon the buddhic plane. That vortex reaches down into the mental plane, causing the astral plane to vibrate sympathetically. Alignment with that vibration bestows emotional balance, mental clarity, and spiritual illumination. When the Masters use the Sacred Word they always do so with a definite plan in mind, and that plan always includes the release of higher concepts - concepts that carry both developmental and restorative energies.
The Sacred Word used by humanity isn’t nearly as powerful; however, the Aum is more than sufficient for human purposes if used properly. When the Sacred Word is chanted the student should have a goal in mind. When the goal involves healing and purification of the physical body the Aum should be chanted in a deep, almost guttural voice. The deeper the sound of the Aum, the better the result achieved. When the goal involves emotional healing the Aum should be sounded two octaves higher. When the goal is mental healing the Aum should be sounded yet another octave higher.
Much has been written about the Aum, some of it accurate, some of it inaccurate. For example, it isn’t necessary to sound the Aum with perfect resonance in either the chest or the sinus cavities. This does in fact create a powerful vortex of energy; however, resonance is not nearly as important as purity of motive and the absence of any sense of separation from the Creator. Beyond that it is helpful to have a purpose in mind while chanting the Aum with Love and Devotion.
The Aum can be combined with the use of color, and the following guidelines are recommended:
(1) Use ruby red when radiating Love to self and others.
(2) Use gold when radiating Wisdom to self and others.
(3) Use royal purple when radiating health and vitality to self and others.
(4) Use violet when radiating all-purpose healing to self and others.
The Aum has a powerful effect upon all three lower vehicles of consciousness, expelling coarser atoms, while attracting more refined atoms. The vibration created affects the chakras directly, and the kundalini energy indirectly. The chakras respond to the sound of the Aum in the same manner as the three lower bodies, expelling dense matter and attracting more highly evolved matter. There is, however, one difference – each chakra has three distinct vibrations –Will, Love, and Intelligence. Chanting the Aum stimulates the energies of Love and Intelligence, but has no effect upon the energies of Will, which can only be awakened by either the Soul or the Master.
The Aum first purifies the three lower vehicles, followed by the chakras, which, when sufficiently developed, summon the kundalini energy that resides at the base of the spine. The kundalini in turn summons the Soul, thereby synthesizing spirit and matter.
When the Soul has expanded its awareness to include the threefold reflection of the Monad (Pure Spirit), it is no longer limited to its primary vehicle of consciousness, the causal body (generally located on the third suplane of the mental plane), but able to function in the realm of triadic consciousness. Triadic consciousness refers to the three vehicles of consciousness whose permanent atoms are found upon the atmic plane, the buddhic plane, and the first subplane of the mental plane. When the Soul is sufficiently developed it functions upon the higher planes, having constructed vehicles of expression around each of the permanent atoms. At that point the Soul’s note enters a whole new dimension. Instead of radiating a note associated with mental plane existence, the Soul now emits a fourth dimensional sound. However, because we live in a three dimensional world, we aren’t able to sound the triadic note. Nevertheless, when the Aum consistently replicates both the key and the subtone of the causal body, the three lower vehicles are systematically purified and aligned with the vibration of the Soul, until ultimately composed of first and second subplane matter. One hint – the correct key and subtone must be sounded with the right purpose in mind, and that purpose must reflect the Soul’s Plan in any given lifetime.
In summary, experiment with the Aum, but first purify your consciousness by connecting with your own Divine Inner Presence. Use the Aum in numbered sets, use it with color, use it up and done the musical scale, but above all, use it with spiritual intent. When perfectly sounded, even for one note, revelation dawns upon the mind, while the heart expands in perfect harmony with all that exists.
