Global Warming
I’m very upset that this issue is only now truly being explored when scientists—for years—have been descrying to “those in charge” that something needs to be done. “Deaf ears” have still heard these scientists yet done nothing to really work on a solution to our growing problem(s). Our so-called representatives thank us for re-electing them to office, yet do little in their committee meetings except to talk of money for victims of Katrina—who are still suffering—while we see Florida’s tornado victims receiving immediate assistance. When they each DO enter the chambers in alphabetical order to vote, the most usual vote is a “no.” (I was there one day when Kennedy stuck his head in, said, “No,” and left.) Our representatives say they represent the people who elected them, yet getting the “glamorous” vote and stepping into those hallowed halls of Capitol Hill, they soon forget WHY they are there. In other words, the “newbies” make promises in their state then learn they cannot fulfill that promise. Do they return to their state and say, “Folks, I promised to do ‘this’ or ‘that,’ but my hands are tied by red tape? No, they do not.
So, let’s do one of two things: 1) let them continue to work in office on whatever they do work on—while they water down a bill with all that "pork" so a bill will pass; or, 2) hold them to the vows and promises they made when they were elected. I’m afraid we’ve gone so long that we, the constituents, have moved into complacency for far too long and we need to speak out strongly and get our priorities right and “force” our elected leader(s) to hold up to the promises made during the campaigns. Perhaps IF they had spent a few days on Capitol Hill before being elected, their eyes mights have been opened and they would have voted differently. Actually, THEY are the ones who have moved too slowly, not US!
