Now that I'm in the process, I've been giving a lot of thought to getting older. I've been laughed at for saying it, but I've found the process exhilarating. It’s as though all those younger years were just prep for now. NOW is when I’m realizing all my dreams.
My first novel, IF TRUTH BE TOLD, was published last year, even though I’ve been writing for 30 years. Shortly after that, another of my novels (OF WORDS & MUSIC) was picked up by the same publisher. Then I signed a contract with another publisher on the first novel in my mystery series, LIVE Ringer.
On top of that, my grown kids are healthy and happy, my grandchildren are nicely spoiled (by me), I live in my dream house and drive my dream car. I have good long-time friends and find fun in almost everything I do.
Would I have appreciated all this when I was younger? Maybe, but not with the same single-minded glee. Getting older may not make us all wise, but if we let it, it gives us the perspective to recognize the good in our lives and celebrate it.
Getting older is where it’s at.
