A question of give and take?

BBC News on the Internet states: John Boehner said Americans had voted for "limited government", and pledged to roll back Mr Obama's healthcare reform "monstrosity".

As a Canadian, I'm trying hard to understand American politics. Shouldn't Boehner and his Republicans who want to have a smaller government start by cutting in half the number of Representatives in the House? Wouldn’t that be a great start and give an irrefutable example of their ‘honesty’? (Forgive me using this world in relation to Washington). Wouldn't that also reduce the skyrocketing deficit? Not just by saving on salaries, but lifetime pension, expenses, grease which goes untaxed, advertising, indecent untaxed dollars spent on election's TV (disgusting—perhaps only to a Canadian?) adds, and so on and so forth?

As for the "healthcare monstrosity", shouldn't Mr. Boehner extend HIS coverage to all who have none, and THEN roll back the "monstrosity".

I do wish that a kind, wise, humble, 'Christian' Republican  would be  charitable enough to explain to me, how can someone who has healthcare coverage deny the same privilage to others, less  fortunate. (Remember, I did say Christian...)

My problem is that, in a way, I am a libertarian at heart: self-determination, small government, small taxes, yet... lately, well, the GOP looks, sounds and behaves in a most disgusting way. That's from a Canadian point of view, of course, and I pay much, much higher taxes...

Perhaps a Democrat can explain it all to me?

I like your idea, Stan! Why do we need so many politicians on the payroll?
