This is about my determination to beat pre-diabetes.
I just found out that I am pre-diabetic. To me that is pretty serious since several members on both sides of my family have diabetes. It is a wake up call if there ever was one. It means changing my whole lifestyle. Cutting back on all the things I have overindulged in over the years. Things like cakes, cookies, ice cream, uh especially ice cream, and sodas...yeah it was time for a different way of being.
It is not easy to make this kind of change in our society. At every turn there is someone enticing you to continue eating to die as opposed to eating to live. I went to work the other day and before I could even get on my floor, there were people crowded around a table for one of those charity drives asking me to come over and grab a big ole donut and give back. I didn't go anywhere near that table! Instead I rushed to the elevators reminding myself that I didn't need the sugar or calories.
Once I got to my floor and pushed open the door, I noticed a huge box of donuts sitting on the counter! Ugh! And the chocolate donuts seemed liek they were waiting for me, calling my name and begging to be plucked and devoured. So I swallowed hard yet managed to walk by those donuts, determined to live in a different way. I didn't have to keep going for all those comfort foods that make you feel so good! I didn't want to end up with diabetes or any other unwanted disease that would result from eating way too many donuts and other pure junk. So I went straight to the kitchen and grabbed my box of multi grain cereal, determined to be satisfied with it.
Later that night, my dad shared devasting information from a magazine article that made me even more determined. Apparently, pre-diabetes is becoming an epidemic in America. People are getting this disease at an alarming rate! And it more than often turns into diabetes, which can wreck havoc on the body!
But even with all that being said, there is good news! People can prolong getting diabetes or even reverse their sugar levels by simply changing their diet amd exercising...and that is something that can easily be done once they make the choice to live as opposed to die. And since I am one of those who plan on living a long, fulfilling and HEALTHY life, I dug in my heels and rolled up my sleeves. I will reverse this thing!
I have gone from eating load of ice cream to loads of veggies. I have even put on my tennis shoes and hit the tred mill hard! I am going to shed the recommended 15 pounds for my height. I will! It is all in my hands and I plan to turn the tides in my favor.
