I did not read the early Anne Rice, but am surely glad I am reading her work now.
Angel Time is a book for all religions. It is a book of redemption that is so amazing it is almost impossible to put down.
Tony O'Dare has had a hard life. His mother was an alcoholic, and he had several siblings. He did the best he could to help the family. But something so horrendous happened that his life would never be the same again.
He becomes an assassination. He works for a man called 'The Right Man' who orders hits and Tony, known to this boss as 'Lucky' uses syringes filled with poison that quickly dissapates.
Tony is a shell. He is hopeless. His dreams are dead. He's just a dead man walking. The straw that broke the camel's back occurred after a hit he made in a place that is dear to him.
He for all he's done, never given up his faith, and the Lord in His mercy, sends Malchiah, a Seraphim angel. He knows Tony wants to truly repent for everything he has done, everyone he has killed, and God has sent this guardian angel to take Tony (if he accepts) on a hard mission to right wrongs and help a lot of folks, Christians and Jews.
Rice's writing is gorgeous and the 'angel time' writing, transporting Tony and the angel is beautiful and mystical.
It is believable and graceful and gracious that the Lord in his mercy loves all of us, regardless of what religion we are, but what we have in our hearts and souls.
It is an excellent read to believers and to those who wonder if our lives mean anything.
