Science Facts to Science Fiction

Discussion of how I use science facts in my science fiction writings.
For me one of the great things about writing science fiction is the ability to take real science facts and mix them with the science fiction.
As an example, in my book, The Charon Covenant, I use science facts that we know there are resources to be used on the moon. Resources of water and oxygen, that’s right, there are types of rocks on the moon that can be processed for those rescources. NASA and several private corporations are already planning a manned moon base. They are already creating the robots and storage systems for collecting and saving oxygen and water.
Can you imagine how exciting it would be to be one of the scientists down here on Earth playing Nintendo with multi-million dollar robots up on the moon.
I like to draw from facts such as global warming and a possible destruction of our planet to be a basis for why we leave the Earth and venture to the moon. That once there our resources will be few and I hope that those few lucky and fortunate human beings will have learned the hard lessons. Thus they would live in a very stark, spare environment.
For that matter we also have the known of the human and animal emotions and the facts of our own struggles to exist and survive. This adds a great element to science fiction to give all of us readers that common bond and understanding and let’s us buy in to the possibilities.
The magical appeal of science fiction is and has always been one of mixing science known and science unknown.
I do most of my writing outdoors or in front of large windows, I love to look out into the blue sky or at the stars at night as I imagine my characters out there. Perhaps that shooting star isn’t a shooting star, perhaps it’s something more????
