Hurting Men - Ungodly Attractions

Rom 8:37

Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.  KJV

James 1:14-15

But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.  Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. KJV

1.       Things you need to recognize about attractions.

A.       Don’t be naïve attractions can lead to lust.

B.      Lust always brings with it a cost that is much higher than you could ever imagine.

C.      You must quickly identify and discern any potential attraction traps from the devil.

D.     Take immediate steps to defeat the devil in these areas.

E.      Satan always tempts you with someone you know you can’t and shouldn’t have.

2.      Start praying that God will help you to deal with your improper responses to ungodly attractions.

A.     Pray that God will reveal to you any ungodly responses that you have fail to truly repent of so you can honestly confess and abandoned them.

B.      Then pray that God will reveal to you the true needs that drive you towards ungodly attractions and ask Him to help you meet those needs in ways that would be Godly and legitimate. (i.e. the need to be accepted, appreciated, valued & sexually fulfilled)

C.      Ask God to help you replace that ungodly attraction with a Godly attraction towards your wife (if married) or remove it altogether if you are not married.

3.       Understand that attractions normally feed your ego.

4.       Work hard to keep the lines of communication open between you, your wife and God.

5.       Create an atmosphere were you can get what you need from your wife.   If you are not married  ask God to help you walk in a Godly way to defeat the temptations of lust and ungodly attractions.

6.       Ask God to lead you to the right “Christian” person to talk to.  He can help hold you accountable until you have become strong enough in God to overcome your stronghold towards ungodly attractions.

7.       Don’t focus on the ungodly attraction.  Instead do what the Bible says:         James 4:7

 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.  KJV
