Keith Barton adds virtual coaching for individual and groups who want to complete their first manuscript, dust off, or polish an existing novel.
Welcome to The
Writer's Connection (sm).
Coaching offers writers a hands-on approach to help you create, evaluate, and complete your manuscript.
My thirty years of experience with clients has given me the insight to recognize resistance to change and the anxiety created when changes are contemplated. Developing a story is exciting when the creative juices are flowing. But like all new behaviors your creativity and production will ebb and flow, with sustained change difficult unless you are prepared to accept the structure and discipline in writing. The process of storytelling follows a formula to some extent, especially in mystery and suspense thrillers. My goal is to help writers tap their creative potential while allowing them to meet self-imposed deadlines. The art of writing is also a science in the sense that plot, character development, pacing, setting, tension, and the 'hook' is critical in grabbing and keeping the reader's attention.
Much of my work has been gleaned through formal study by attending writers' workshops offered by Mystery Writers of America, entering contests, belonging to a writers' support group, and publishing nine novels in five years. I have always been a voracious reader and have enjoyed suspense thrillers. What I can offer you, the writer, is a personal and confidential relationship that focuses on your goals, not mine. I want you to be successful and publish your first manuscript. I promise to be honest with you and demand accountability to allow you to achieve your goals. I pledge to be an active listener, remain intuitive, curious, and help you identify any constraints that might be holding you back from completing your first book. While I cannot guarantee publication of your first manuscript, I can help you unleash the potential for creating a manuscript that can be a liberating and therapeutic experience.
