A SINGLE MINDED PRAYER
Much has been said about "praying always" "How you can pray" " and the "need to pray". But few things bhave been said on how we can be heard in heaven. It is one thing to pray and a different thing to be heard in heaven. Several prayers were not answered because they were not properly prayed. You can pray, and pray always, fast, speak in tongues, cry before the Lord in prayers, and yet not heard in heaven. So many people are today complaining that God doesnt answer prayers, or that their case is demonic, or that some witches and curses are behind their problems. This could be true , but at the same time it might not be the case with you. It could be that your prayers are not yet heard in heaven, for if God heard your prayers no devil in hell or earth is capable of resisting your answer. So lets look at a particular vital reason why so many prayers are not heard in heaven. To do that we shall look at a particular scripture to begin with.
"If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways." (Jms.1:5-8)
From the above passage of the scripture it is very clear that God can never answer certain prayers, no matter who prays them, how long or how well the prayers are made, especially the prayer of a double minded fellow. This means that the prayer that will be answered must be done in singleness of mind. If double mindedness can neutralize my prayers and render them ineefective before God, then there is need for me to know what it means to be double-minded in prayers, and then how I can be SINGLE-MINDED for effectiveness.
We shall looking at this under four sub-headings:
1. CONFIDENCE: The bible says "...But let him ask in faith...) This is very important in order to have our prayers answered. In (Hebrew 11:6) it says for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Confidence is the absence of worry. People pray with a lot of worry in their heart and expect God bto answer heir prayers. To worry is not just an indication of unbelief, it is an aweful sin. When you worry it means you dont agree with all that God said about Himself. You cast question on His eternal sovereignity. You qustion His faithfullness. You are saying " can He really do all He said? am I sure all Head is not lying or exergerating? Supposing He fail? Can I really believe Him that He will answer my prayers?
This is why people do nt give thanks when they pray-because they are not sure that their prayers would be answered. But God want us to rejoice, thank Him and celebrate our answered prayers before they manifest. When you thank God for your prayers answered even when you have not seen the answer it shows you have an absolute confidence that He will do just what He says He will do.
Have you thouht of why God asked the Israelites to celebrate their deliverance ever before it was granted to them? God was simply tellingthem to thank Him and celebrate the victory in advance. It was a feast of pass-over, and was actually celebrated before the actual pass-over. We see Jesus using the same principles here on earth.
Jesus came to raise Lazarus from death. How did He pray to His Father? He gave thanks, this is a way of celebrating His answers even before it came.
"Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me."
Please understand that before Jesus said this He has not seen the miracle yet, but as soon as He said this He moved and acted in accordance with His prayers and there was a miracle!
When Jesus fed five thousand men with few fishes and few bread, it was the same way; He gave thanks and acted in accordance with His prayers and there was a miracle! A heart full of worry can not give thanks from the heart and that is why they can’t see answers to the prayers.
2. OUR MEDITATON: Remember we are looking at what it means to pray a SINGLE-MINDED PRAYER. This means thinking in line with your prayers and what you are believing God for. The truth is that we think/meditate more than we talk, and that is why our life is as a result of the meditation of our heart.
“Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer” (Ps.19:4)
When you pray positively but think negatively you are a double-minded fellow and your prayers can not be accepted. It means you don’t have a single mind towards your request and towards God. Your prayers and the meditation of your heart must be one- single in purpose and pursuit. That is what it means to have a single mind when praying.
3. CONVERSATION: We can be single-minded in prayer and in meditation but if our conversation is saying something else it means we are not single minded in purpose and pursuit, and let not that fellow think he will receive any thing from God, why because he is a double-mined person. So when we pray, meditate positively, our conversation with our friends must agree with our prayers. We must watch our tongue during conversation. We must not say anything negative and different from our prayers and expectation. In our conversation we must not say anything indication or suggesting a different thing from our prayers. Keep your conversation in line with your positive prayers and meditation. This is what it means to be SINGLE-MINDED in praying.
4. BEHAVIOR. We can be positive in our prayers, meditation, and even conversation, but if our behavior and attitude towards what we are praying for is different then don’t ever think you will receive anything from God, this is because you are not SINGLE-MINDED in praying. If you are trusting God for a change in your husband’s life but you dishonor him, disrespect him thinking he doesn’t deserve your respect; no matter how you pray for him he will never change. The reason is because there is no SINGLENESS OFMIND AND PUROSE in you. You don’t believe in your prayers and that is why you are behaving the way you are.
Learn to believe God as you come before Him in prayers, don’t permit worry rather give thanks as you pray – I mean real thanks. Then let your thinking and meditation be in line with your prayers, then talk in the same line even as you discuss on the subject with your friends, and finally behave what you believe. Lt it be seen in your action even as Jesus moved towards Lazarus tomb and spoke, also as He gave thanks and began to break the bread. When you do this God will do exceedingly, abundantly, above all you ask or think according to His power that works in you!
