Sexual activity among teenagers is more prevelant now than in any other time before. If that's not bad enough, many teens are turning to adults to have sex with. Most times however, the teenagers do not realize what they are getting themselves into. Unfortunately the adults involved in these relationships do know what is really going on and they do nothing to stop it. There are many, many people in this country who think that it is ok for teenagers to have sex. I for one, disagree.

The federal government should have stepped in years ago to set a national age for sexual consent for teenagers. As an acquaintance of a family whose small child was brutally raped and murdered and also having sexual abuse close in my own family, I have much to say on the subject.

I do not wish to go into all the awful details but I will say that these experiences are life changing for children. They only think they know what they want and what they are doing. Imagine a nineteen-year-old (adult by world standards) telling a twelve-year-old girl that he loves her and is going to marry her. Imagine him telling her that certain things are OK as long as the parents do not find out.

Imagine a fourteen-year-old girl dating a twenty-one-year-old male. He is old enough to drink, she is not but because she is dating him, you better believe that she is probably drinking as well. What's worse, don't think for one minute that the guy isn't looking for sex. He is twenty one after all. Even sixteen-year-old girls are too young for this type of age range.
