International Incident
While a student at the Sorbonne in Paris, I stopped at a shop to buy a map of France.
The storekeeper,an edlerly Frenchman, brought me an armful of maps.
"Here's Paris!" he said.
"And here is Marseille. And this is Lyon."
"But sir," I reminded him, "I want a map of France."
"Mademoiselle," he said sternly, "France is much too large to be on one map."
