Are You Looking To Improve Your Smile?

DENTAL VENEERS

The Most Important Secrets

You Must Learn

In Order to Look and Feel Great

Are You Looking To Improve Your Smile?

“Learn how dental veneers can improve your physical appearance of your teeth”

Did You Know…?

Different dentists may refer to dental veneers as porcelain veneers or dental porcelain laminates.  So don’t get confused if you start talking to your dentists about dental veneers and your doctors refers to them as porcelain laminates it all refers to the same thing.

What are Dental Veneers?

Dental veneers are extremely thin so they are not visible to the naked eye.  The veneers are custom-made by your dentist using materials constructed to cover the front of your teeth.  They are made to match the color of your teeth so the veneers blend nicely and are not noticeable.

Why Do People Get Dental Veneers?

Many people are conscience of the way they look.  If you are looking to improve your smile or appearance, dental veneers may be the solution.

How do they work?

Dentists use shells that are bonded to the front of the teeth.  These shells change the color, shape, size, and length of your teeth.  Your dentist will customize your veneers satisfy your needs by creating the perfect set of shells to enhance your appearance.

How Are Dental Veneers Made?

There are several ways you can make dentals veneers.  Dental veneers can be made from either porcelain or from combination of resin materials.

Do People Like To Use Porcelain Veneers In Comparison To Resin?

Individuals seem to favor and use the porcelain veneers most frequently because they resist stains better and they last longer than resin veneers.

The Pro’s Verse the Cons

Composite veneers are less expensive but they do not last as long as the porcelain veneers.  If you use composite veneers most likely, you are going to end up replacing them more often.  This could be costly especially if you do not have the extra money to spend.  As they say in the old school, you get what you pay for, so you may be better off sending a little more for a better veneer that will last longer and will not have to be changed as frequently.  In the end, you probably end up paying more than you anticipated.

Who are good candidates for composite Veneers?

Composite veneers are perfect for individuals who have small chips in their mouth.  The reason for this is that these types of veneers will conserve your natural teeth better.

Dental veneers look similar to your natural teeth.  Dental veneers give the illusion to the naked eye that the teeth in your mouth are straight and pearly white.  This creates a beautiful smile for the patient who wears the Dental veneers.

The Benefits of Having Dental Veneers

Dental Veneers are great for people whom…

  • Have stains on their teeth
  • Have discolored teeth
  • Have worn out looking teeth
  • Have chipped teeth
  • Have broken teeth
  • Have crooked teeth
  • Have uneven teeth
  • Have a unusual shape to their teeth
  • Have misaligned teeth
  • Have gaps in their teeth

What Does the Dental Veneer Procedure Involve?

A person who is having this procedure done will require visiting their dentist at least three times to complete the procedure.  Below explains what to expect when you go through this procedure.

  • Day one your dental consultation – You will have to describe to your doctor exactly what you are looking to achieve from this procedure.  During your consultation, your dentist will examine your teeth.  The reason for this is that he wants to make sure that dental veneers are right for you.  Before you go at home, get a piece of paper and jot down a list of question to ask your doctor.  During your first appointment, your dentist may take an X-ray and make impressions of your mouth and teeth.
  • Day two - creating the veneers - Your dentist will remove about ½ millimeter of enamel from the surface of your tooth on day two.  This amount is equal to the thickness of the veneer and it will be put on the tooth’s surface.  Before scraping off the enamel, you and your dentist will determine if it is essential for you to use a local anesthetic to numb the area in your mouth.  Some people use a local anesthetic and some people choose not to.  Your dentist will begin to create the model or impression of your tooth.  The model is sent to a dental laboratory.  The dental laboratory will create your veneer.  It usually takes one to two weeks to complete the creation process and in about two weeks, your dentist will receive the veneers back from the dental laboratory.
  • Day three - putting on the veneers (the bonding process) - Before the dental veneer is permanently cemented to your teeth; for the time being your dentist will place it on your tooth to make sure it fits properly and the color matches the color of your teeth.  The dentist will repeatedly remove and trim the veneer as many times as needed to make sure it fits properly.  Do not worry if the color of the veneer is a little off because the color on the veneer can be adjusted with the shade of cement.  After that, your tooth will be cleaned, polished, and etched.  This helps strengthen the veneers on the tooth so it stays on well.  Dentist always use specific cement designed just for veneers.  Once the veneer and cement is correctly, position on the tooth, your dentist will apply a unique light beam to the dental veneer.  This activates chemicals in the cement helping it to harden quicker.
  • Finally, the dentist will remove any extra cement, make sure your bite is good and making any final adjustments needed.  Your dentist will properly ask you to schedule an appointment in a couple of weeks to check to make sure everything is good and they are no problems.
  • Veneers usually last for five up to ten years.  Composite veneers will only last a year or two.

Important Tip for the Day:

Your dental veneers can last longer if you take good care of your teeth.  The best way to care for your teeth is to visit your dentist for checkups on a regular basis.
