This is a movie review on The Duchess.

I have had the good luck to be able to see the BBC production of The Duchess that is based on the life of Lady Georgiana Spencer that at the age of 17 years old was married to the elderly Duke of Devonshire that wanted a male heir to carry on Duke's name.
Lady Georgiana married the Duke of Devonshire, and she had two beautiful daughters by the Duke of Devonshire and finally after The Duke martially raped her, she had a son, by the way, that did not marry nor have any children.

One might think of What Queen Mary of Scots said when she found out that her second husband, Henry Stuart, Lord Darnley came down with smallpox, it was God's wrath upon his vile nature.

Lady Georgiana had to endure her husband's many adulterous affairs including one with a young woman she befriended name Lady Bess.

Lady Georgiana had no idea that her husband the Duke and the lady she befriended were having an affair and when she tried to have her removed from the Devonshire Family Home, the Duke refused.

Lady Georgiana decided to have her own affair with Lord Grey and with him, she had a daughter that she had to give away, or she would have lost her children to her husband as he was a powerful man.

Lord Grey and Lady Georgiana enfant de amour was handed over to Lord Grey's family to take care and Lady Eliza did not know who her mother was until she grew up, and she named one of her own daughter's after the mother that had to give her up for the sake of keeping the children she had by her marriage with The Duke of Devonshire.

Lady Georgiana died due to problems of the liver at age 48 and The Duke after her death went onto marry Lady Bess that gave him two children born out wedlock.

I have seen many of the British Broadcasting Center's productions, and I can say that The Duchess is one of the finest they have put out in a long time only next to Elizabeth R, the Six Part Series of Elizabeth The First back in 1972.

The acting in The Duchess was fantastic, and as I love all historical romances and historical shows I loved this one as I loved the last BBC production of The Other Boleyn Girl.

The Other Boleyn Girl was heartbreaking but The Duchess was even more so heartbreaking, in my opinion. It is a movie worth seeing or taping so you can enjoy it over and over again.

Both daughters of Lady Georgiana Spencer went onto marry and one of their descendants were The Late Princess Diana, and from Lady Eliza, the enfant de amour from Henry Grey comes Lady Sarah Fergie.
