I found this profane and disgusting.
We had been on a wonderfuly relaxing holiday weekend at Lake Guntersville,in Alabama. The lake is on the Tennesee rever and just beautiful.
Driving back home on monday, Memorial Day, We were listening to an interivew with Gregg Allman on an XM satelite radio.
He was pitching his book and being asked questions from I presume a small live audience.
He was talking about how he told his brother to wear pink lace panties to his military draft induction physical. Then he told a story about his own experience with the draft. How, on the night before he was to report to the induction center, they had a foot shooting party.
I was appalled at the party spirit of the whole thing. Painting targets on his shoe made me ill. When he said he actually did shoot his foot and got out of the draft by cowardice, I switched off the radio, and couldn't believe what I heard.
I just COULD NOT believe XM would allow someone to tell a story like that on the day we honor those who gave all for our freedom.
I could care less if Gregg Allman shoots his foot, or his head for that matter. He can tell the story on radio anytime, other than Memorial Day. I never did have much respect for him anyway.
If the program was pre-recorded someone at the station made a very bad joke or a serious mistake.
I'm still really disgusted, and don't don't have much more to say.
Walt

Well! That certainly was in bad taste on Mr. Allman's part! Unfortunately its stuff like this that sells books, magazines and spots on the radio....gotta wonder!

Actually, I could have stomached the story better had Allman shot himself in the head.

Sadly, this doesn't surprise me at all. There was a time in our nation when most of our leaders had proudly donned a military uniform. Today, hardly any of them have, and neither have their children. We have become a nation of war, but far too many in this country now believe that fighting these wars is someone else's responsibility, not theirs.

Walt, no veteran could ever understand or accept what you heard - no patriot could ever understand or accept what you heard - entertainers, not all, but a substantial number of them are takers and maligners who never contribute anything worth while to society - they do not deserve the freedom they have - but without the men and women of our military they would not have anything - certainly not all of their money and personal fame - I wish you love and peace my dear friend - Jon Michael
