The value of scars
I wish every Christian in the entire world had at least one easily visible scar. That sounds strange doesn’t it? But there is reason to this madness. A scar is often the earliest sign of healing in a wound. And since Christians are the image of the walking wounded, a scar would at least signal that healing has begun.
It would be obvious to everyone around them, that they were starting to heal. Instead, as it is, wounded souls are hidden behind a facade of cheer.
You may know people, perhaps even you have even been one of those in church on Sunday morning, saying, “Bless God, I’m fine,; while trying to convince others that a divorce, drug problems, pending lawsuit, bankruptcy or whatever else are just peachy. Gosh, what a clever disguise. I'm sure it fools the devil.
However, in reality, when a scar forms on a wound, it seals out further infection and allows the wounded tissue underneath, time to recover. The body can work in unison to cleanse the infection and rebuild damaged tissue.
Without a scar, an open sore continues to fester and allows contamination from without and waste products from within to poison the body. Open, weeping ulcers are a sign of a very serious infection. God’s body in this last hour is in need of much healing.
Forgiveness, repentance and confession are like clotting factors that can help seal off an injured soul from further damage.
The trick is; before you can be healed, you have to actually admit to being injured. An inoculation with truth serum is a prerequisite to healing.
Truth itself is a powerful medicine. God’s word is truth. When applied liberally with a compress of confession; honesty will circulate the blood of Jesus through your injury and cleanse you.
Now, the world with its abhorrence of all things not physically beautiful; rejects scars as defects, though they are actually the sign of a healing body or soul.
In opposition however, The outward appearance of physical or spiritual perfection does not impress God. It’s so hard to wow Him with your accomplishments. He thinks He’s God, and He really is! He is perfection.
Scars are also symbolic. Like a badge of courage, they may speak of honor. Wounded warriors should be held in high esteem by every citizen. They have paid a great price for your freedom.
Lastly, scars are also a sign of love, as in the scars in the hands of our Savior. Won’t you receive His healing today?
The whole head is sick and the whole heart faint. From the sole of the foot even to the head, there is no soundness in it, but bruises and sores and raw wounds; they are not pressed out or bound up or softened with oil (Isaiah 1:6).
