After having a two-page article about his life published in Classical Guitar Magazine, working on the internet sites “Great Composers and Their Lives” and “Ferrisguitar.com” with great success, it was the author's desire to take his writing a bit further which led to his first book.

Reading the book Crossing Borders is to look at the world through the eyes of a young American experiencing a foreign country for the first time for the purpose of going to university. As the book progresses, the protagonist grows older. Each chapter is a glimpse into different intercultural challenges that are contemplated, dealt with and finally overcome. Those that read this book should be inspired by the author's imagination and his will to succeed. Making all of his wishes and desires a reality, and at the same time coping with inevitable failure, it is truly the story of a dream come true; several dreams come true.

The somewhat strange and humorous experiences make the narrator wiser / more mature and in turn, the narration and dialogues also become more in depth, full of background information on various intercultural subjects including foreign mentalities, food, as well as varying customs. Crossing Borders is also the story of looking at the world as an adult American living abroad, fluent in several languages and culturally knowledgeable. Yet more importantly, it portrays the journey through life in a distant country and becoming a man.

Crossing Borders by Michael Ferris would be great for anyone who has always wanted to see the world or for the avid traveler.
