I didn’t know anyone lost on 9/11, and yet I weep…
9/11/2011 8:37:04 AM
Ten years ago I stopped at a 7-eleven to get gas. I decided to get some donuts for the office so I walked into the store. The TV was on showing images of the smoking first Tower. I watched as I waited in line to what I thought was a movie trailer, when I saw the second plane crash against the second tower.

The screaming of the people on the TV as well as the screaming of the people in the 7–eleven made me realize it was real…and so I started weeping…

I didn’t know anyone lost on 9/11, or their families, and yet I wept.

I wept as I watched in horror, I wept as I felt their fear… as I felt their families’ pain…

I wept as I imagine parent-less children…children less parents…

I wept as my American Dream of safety crumbled…

I didn’t know anyone lost on 9/11…and yet ten years later I still weep.

I weep as mothers and fathers are still kissing their children goodbye while heading to war…

I weep as parents kiss their children goodbye as they return home lifeless…

I weep as innocent people find themselves lost in a nation-less battle field…

I weep as I listen to a parade of Nations voiced out on the names of the fallen…as I listen to border-less pain…limitless love…

I weep as I watch and old man crumble in pain be held by another old man…as I see the courage of children, and grownups call out the names, cry out their pain…

I didn’t know anyone lost on 9/11…and yet I will always weep.

I will always weep moved as I see the survivors of the fallen live in freedom…

I will always weep touched as I see the survivors of the fallen hold hands together beyond the borders of cultural differences, united by unlimited love, unlimited hope…

I will always weep as I learn that regular people can be heroes and do the right thing…

I will always weep as my Nation by choice heals, rebuilds, but never forgets…

I didn’t know anyone lost on 9/11…and yet I weep...
