An Unusual Wedding Date

An Unusual Wedding Date is from my new book, "My Healing Heart - A Life Journey to Find Love"
I was engaged on August 7, 1990. Only a year and 2 months before that, my son, Alex, had passed away in his sleep. He was two years and eight months old. I had adopted Alex when he was four days old. I was single and on assignment in Islamabad, Pakistan.
I wanted to get married in December 1991. That worked out best for both of us. I found a Unity church and sent them a deposit for December 18th. Shortly after I did that, I received a letter advising me that the church would not be available for the entire month of December due to renovations. My sister lived in Virginia Beach and had just attended a beautiful wedding there at the Botanical Gardens of Norfolk. After the vows were said in the park, the entire wedding party attended a reception on a boat that went around the bay of Virginia Beach. This really appealed to me, and I told my fiance, Guillermo. He loved the idea. Naturally, the wedding would have to be in the summer instead of December. My sister asked me for some dates in June. She was handling all of the details because I was living in Chile at this time, working there for the US embassy.
I gave my sister some weekend dates in June 1991, but excluded the date of June 23rd, when my son had passed away the year before. None of the dates that I had given my sister were available - either the park was busy or the boat was unavailable. I honestly didn't want the weekend of Saturday, June 22, or Sunday, June 23, but I had to give my sister the 22nd because there was no other possibility. Finally, my sister Freyda confirmed June 22. Both the park and the boat were available! Only two weeks after she confirmed the date, the botancial gardens called her and explained, apologetically, that something important had come up on that date and that the only day they had available was Sunday, June 23, the exact date that Alex had passed away.
We felt that this was not a coincidence and realized that this was a sign. We were in awe of this amazing development. We knew that we had received a remarkable gift from Alex and the universe.
And so it was on Sunday, June 23rd, exactly two years after Alex passed away, that Guillermo and I were married.
There are so many signs that the universe tries to show us if only we are open to them. We felt very blessed that little Alex was with us on our special day, and he still is, twenty-one years later.
