My Response to Karen's Blog !!! 2/15/2009 9:34:20 AM Karen,
Since I am the monster that apparently created this mess by giving you a review on your poem, I thought it
absolutely imperative that I respond to your blogs which are obviously directed at me. Allow me to quote
part of your personal message to me, "Elizabeth, The reason I don't do poetry any more is because of this.
more reviews is like another slap in the face, especially in regards to my stories. The one you should be
reading is my twin sister, Karla..."
Here was my reply to that message:
"Karen, it was never my intention to insult you in any way, shape or form. I simply thought that since you
reviewed a poem of mine, you were interested in poetry and I returned a review for one of your poems. It is
not that I am uninterested in your stories, I also write stories, but usually the people who review my poems
are more into poetry and rarely read my stories, so I mistakingly thought the same of you. I apologize if I
offended you. I'd be glad to read your stories and have you read mine. Look forward to seeing you ~ Hugs, Elizabeth"
This morning I had the pleasure of finding your blog entitled: "Please Do NOT read/review my poetry!!!!!!!!" and
I have to say I found it most disturbing and unnecessary. After all, you did already message me to tell me to
never review your poetry again, so why take this into a public forum? I got the message. However, if you don't
wish to have your poems reviewed, why do you have them posted? My suggestion would be to remove the
poetry completely from AD and allow your stories to take center stage. This way, no other poor unsuspecting
soul will do the same terrible thing that I did in reviewing your poetry. I take my time and give thoughtful,
meaningful reviews as I know everyone puts their hearts and souls into their writing. And I also think that my
review of YOUR work has nothing to do at all with your sister. Just because someone reads or reviews you,
doesn't mean they are neglecting or ignoring Karla. I think we are talking about two separate issues, although
I fully understand and respect your love and concern for your sister. But, this is just uncalled for.
As someone who writes both poetry and short stories, I can tell you that I sometimes spend months--yes,
months--writing and rewriting poetry and stories. Some I put aside and revisit after a year or more. I find
I get a whole new perspective on them at that point and fresh ideas, as well. Anyway, saying that someone
spends an entire 'hour' on writing or perfecting a poem, is just laughable, and I mean no disrespect to Karla,
whatsoever. I think you are trying to express your frustrations, both for yourself and Karla, and are going about
it in the wrong way. This, of course, is just my humble opinion. We would all love nothing more than to have
everyone read all our work (whether it is poetry or prose or absolute silly nonsense) and tell us how wonderful
we are and that our writing is like nothing they've read before. But, let's be real ... that's just NOT gonna happen!
I think we should be grateful for whomever reads our writing and is thoughtful enough to leave comments. We
would all like more readers and reviewers, and we would all love to get feedback on our writing. I'm trying to say
that we are all in the same literary boat, so grab an oar sister, we're a team ... row!
I also read your second blog "I'm sorry about the outburst yesterday" ... apology accepted. I hope we can all
move on now and read and enjoy each other's writing. I wish you great success with your work. Best wishes
and hugs~ Elizabeth
