Last week I had the pleasure of attending the national conference for the American Adoption Congress held in Cleveland, Ohio. I took along my 18 year old son for company, but mostly because I wanted him to get a chance to meet and hear former Maine state senator, Paula Benoit. She gave a powerful speech about how original identity is a basic human right (if you didn't know already, 42 states in the U.S. seal adoptee's original birth certificates-which includes adoptee's original identities). Paula Benoit led the state of Maine in unsealing adoptee's birth certificates which just went into effect this year, her own website is http://www.adopteecare.com/ .

My son also got to meet and hear Darryl "DMC" McDaniels (RUN DMC) who was also in attendance at the conference. Darryl talked about his own adoption journey and debuted his and Zara Philips's new song "I'm Legit". You can hear this song at: http://www.youbloom.com/web/zaradmc
