HOW LONG IS A PIECE OF STRING? 7/29/2009 5:14:41 AM I recall getting excited at seeing colour television, now I get sad that this planet is in such a mess. The speed at which the teshno world moves is really quite fascinating. In my lifetime there has been;;;;;;
Nuclear Power
mobile phones
video recording
dvd recording
digital radio
credit card
wind turbine power
wave power
satelites
satelite television
satelites out of our solar system
Moon landing
Mars exploration
Venus probes etc. etc.
Skype.
and the list would go on and on and on. The bit that impresses and annoys, is the pace at which it moves. No sooner has it entered the market than in a year it is 'out of date'. It is as if a door of learning was opened and tchno man suddenly found a way around all manner of situations. BUT it all comes at a huge price, the power to drive it all is becoming an ecological nightmare. For each human we are in need of a wind turbine to support that persons needs. In all of these inovations, it has set apart half of the planet, the underdeveloped, (The ones that perhaps like their green spaces.) Now we are infecting their generations with our ways, which is sad, sad because we have no control over how fast we develope, and that is spiralling cost beyond many members of the human race, soon they will be using our two year cast offs.
Economically it makes no sense at all to keep changing things, by all means improve them, but to build with in-built termination dates, where is the end? how long is a piece of string.
It worries me that all this techno progress and the fish of our oceans are dying, the land is like a chemical time bomb, and the human race cannot get along in peace. We do not advance in profitable areas.
Even God has warned that he will destroy those that are ruining the Earth, a warning that has implications for our time, the Earth was not ruined when those words were written.
