Writing Intentions

Whether one makes New Year resolutions or not, if one is a writer it is important to have some kind of a plan to keep up with one's writing. Where should we start? How about making a list of what you want to write and then make a decision about how much you can reasonably produce. If you are a poet, you could perhaps make a commitment to write one poem a week; if you are a blogger, you should try to blog at least once a week. Short story writers should probably aim for one a month, and those who write in-depth articles should aim for one a month also. If you are writing a book, whether fiction or non-fiction, deciding on a realistic word count each day is a good way to see your book unfold. It is good to look for internet marketing tools that can help get your name and work recognized. In 2009, I increased my blogging ways from being on a monthly rotation for The Word Guild Authors to a blog on the background of my book of short stories, Welsh Cakes, each Wednesday,and a blog that has excerpts from my journals of spiritual and writing growth over the last 15 years. These excerpts will become a published book this year. It has a working title of A Spiritual Woman's Scrapbook. A few months ago, I joined Author's Den and I blog here each Sunday. It is easy to get bogged down with too much blogging, so a schedule for one's writing is important so that marketing doesn't replace one's major writing projects.
