Separation 2/5/2007 7:35:51 PM Synopsis
Separation
Since our separation I have been doing some research into the social downside of this event.
I have found that in Australia more than 30% of Adult suicides are persons who are either separated or divorced. Whereas more than 18% of child and teenage suicides are from separated or divorced families.
When it comes to crime, 64% of all convicted persons are from families that were either separated or divorced, while the incidence of mental illness among both adults and young persons is steadily increasing, with depression and Bi-Polar being the most common, leading to Drug and Alchohol abuse as a common indicator within single family situations.
Close to 60% of all divorcees are people whose own parents separated and divorced when they were children.
Parents are teaching their children that relationships and marriage are only a temporary state. We now live in a truly throw away society where marriage and the concept of family is considered to be unimportant.
Marriage, whether it is formal or otherwise, is about sacrifice when children are involved. Adults have a duty to their children to set a lifestyle example for them to learn and follow.
In saying this, there are possible exceptions, where abuse and violence is common. It is then in the interests of the child that they be removed from such situations. Where abuse and violence is not present, adults have a duty to each other, and their children, to seek help in trying to sort out their differences, instead of just running away, refusing to face things.
Many instances of separation and divorce can traced back to a lack of communication between the people involved. Instead of talking to each other, they talk to unqualified “Friends?” taking their advice, not thinking that what they are doing is only seeking permission to act in a certain way.
The current rate of divorce and separation in Australia is three out of five marriages, and the main victims of this “What about me” society are the children. Maybe if people thought things out properly and found common ground there would be less pain in the world.
