Woke up this morning to the news that Athens had lost the Olympic games, due to non completion of the Venue. It was further reported that the Games had been awarded by default to three cities in Australia. Sydney, Brisbane, and Melbourne.
Calls for voluteers to help with organisation and running of the Games were made and hundreds of people converged on points Australia wide to register as Volunteers, some flying down from distance country towns and cities.
The Government representative for sport was contacted by 'phone and interviewed, as were sporting personalities, lending credence to the story.

Then at Nine am this morning, the call came over the Radio, "Got Ya!! April Fools!!"

Unfortunatly, some people had immediately made Hotel Booking, Air travel arrangements etc, based on the seemingly "True" story.

All in All they had fooled around 30% of the population of three states, around three million people believed it. It has been reported that calls are still coming in to the Australian Olympic Body looking for information on venues and dates.
Many believing that the cancellation is the real joke, not the original story.
Hmmm...A double April Fools Prank?
