Chaos 6/4/2004 8:16:59 AM My day, Friday June 4th
Greetings once again, and welcome to my world. Although some would say my nightmare.
Shopping
A rather peaceful day, unless the could count the maddening crowd, at the Supermarket, as being peaceful. The usual shennanigans with impatient mothers and screaming kids. I solved the screaming kid at supermarket problem years ago, I left them at home. It's surprising how much money one can save by not having to buy McDonalds, drinks, and assorted candy as bribes. When one thinks about it, Mothers who bribe their kids with sugar, only end up exacerbating the problem by making the Kids hyperactive.Today a Mother was fined heavily for assault. She was charged with beating her child, albeit it happened in a Supermarket, and the Staff rang the Police, who promptly arrested her. Whereas I can sympathise with the frustrations of having the kids while shopping, I feel there must be another way of handling that frustration.
Gaming frustrations
Today I also thought I would try my hand at online gaming. I went out and bought a game called Baldurs Gate. Knowing absolutely nothing about RPG games, I went through the tutorial, the rules, and etc; Only to find that the server, known as "Interplay", has gone and dissapeared into the ether somewhere. Seems they spent more than they were making, and were, how shall I put it? I know, "Repossesed". So now I am bidding on two other games on eBay.
Kids & Police
Daughter went to stay at a frinds house Last night. I received a telephone call at 12.30 this morning, and she is saying that she wants to come home. So I search for my car keys, wallet, and mobile phone, and go to pick her up. As usual, I get lost. This is not helped by the fact that there is insufficient street lighting, so i have to park the car and go walking to find the right house. Added to that were the "Ferrals", young males driving at breakneck speeds through suburban streets, flashing lights at me because I choose to observe the speed limit, and yelling abuse. Then there are the Police, who are also driving at breakneck speeds, chasing the Ferrals, and never seeming to catch them. So what do they do? Simple, out of frustration they pull me over for a breath and drug test. Imagine their surprise when they find out that the long haired, pony tailed, bearded hippy type in the Gold Van, is totaly clean. Even bigger surprise when they find themselves talking to a Justice. It si amazing how attitudes change, and they become so polite.
Teenage Drinking
Anyway I do digress, I tend to do that sometimes dont I? Finaly find my Daughter. She climbs into the car and the first thing I notice is the smell of alchohol, specificaly cheap scotch whisky. I doubt it was real scotch, unless the Scots have taken to distilling in the bathtub. How anyone can drink that stuff is beyond me. Oh well, she is young, she has not learned to apreciate good single malt as yet, and if I had my way, she never would. I do not aprove of her drinking at her friends house, or anywhere else at her age, but I suppose i must accept and admonish. I do this by waking her up early to LOUD noises, and hiding the headache tablets.
Movie and ice age
On thusday night we went to see "The Day After Tomorrow." It was a most interesting film. The adaptation of Velikovski's theory of instataneous freezing from an Ice Age was well done. Okay, Velikovski used interstelar intrusion in his model, the close encounter with a large comet or asteroid, the resulting debris from geological disturbance, such as Volcanos, the melting icecaps etc. In the story, the effects were caused by pollution and Global Warming. What was frightening, is that it has happened at least twice before in Earth's geological history, albeit ten thousand years apart. So the question must be, "When will it happen again?" Not if. but when. One can but remember the frozen Siberian mammoth, frozen upright, with vegetation in its mouth. In other words, it was instantaneously "Snap Frozen".
Farewell and goodnight
Well my gentle readers, it is 2.15 am and I must leave you to your dreams, deliberations and daily chores. For those of you who have just awoken, as you struggle through the chaos of city traffic, I shall be fast asleep, dreaming of better things.
Until next time, may your Gods, singular or plural, watch over and protect you. If you have time today, spare a thiught for all the lonely people in your neighborhood. Say hello, if not from you, then from me. A single word and a smile may make their day a happier one, and knowing this, may make your day more fulfilling.
Fare Thee Well
