Why are we Waiting? and other Pontifications.
7/26/2004 6:54:29 AM
I am still waiting

Greetings. Today I spent most of my time waiting. I waited for the workmen to come and lay the tiles on the laundry and toilet floor. having moved everything out of the Laundry, cleard the floor, I waited, In vain. They did not turn up, which is not unusual for the self employed now a days.

Next I waited in the Doctors Surgery waiting room. I had an apointment for 11 am, I arrived at 10.45 am. and waited, then waited some more. Finaly at 12 mid-day. he deigned to honor me with his royal summons into his inner sanctum, only to wait some more. All this for a little injection of hormones. I have the feeling that Dr's waiting rooms are akin to the foyer of Hell, where the damned sit and await judgment. I mean looking at all the sick people waiting their turn, is enough to make one sick.

I also went to the Supermarket to buy milk. and waited in the express lane to pay. You know, the one that says eight items or less? Guess what, no-one can count past five so one waits while people who claim not to understand english, stubbornly push through 20 or more items, pay by credit card, then wheel the trolly from the building carrying on a conversation in perfect English.

I waited at the take Away to buy Juanita a chicken Yeeros. And did not have to wait long. probably because the person who served me is the owner of the Business.

Finaly, i waited for a phone call from the Apliance store to confirm delivery of a new wide screen television set. The store rang at around 5 pm to confirm delivery after lunch tomorrow. Couldn't tell me exactly when, so tomorrow i will have to wait again.

I have decided to try and study exactly how long one spends waiting for things in ones everyday life. The way i figure it out, if we could eliminate or reduce waiting times, we coild find more constructive things to do in life. But I guess I'll have WAIT for the answers.

The Australian version of Big Brother ended tonight, at last. Unfortuately i was forced to watch it, or should i say listen to it. I prefered to play games on the computer. The winner was presented with First prize. A Million Dollars. Not bad for 12 weeks lounging around doing nothing, ( OK I'm envious), antway after winning he proposed to his fiance' on national television. A sure ratings winner, and yes I did get a little emotional over the whole thing. And here I was, thinking that romance is dead, and some reality show contestant proves me wrong.

Talking of reality shows, I wonder what comes next. Ratings are proving that the viewing audience is becoming quite bored with the current crop. I suppose with Olympics coming up, one could suggest that is also a reality show. The problem with televising the Olympics, is that we can never see all of the sports we like. Swimming will take up most of the air time, to the exclusion of most other sports. The Broadcasters will make millions from sponsors, endorsments, and advertisers. Greece will probably never recover from the blow to it's economy, and millions will be spent on sending Athletes from all over the world. All this while two thirds of the worlds populations starve, or die from inadequate medical treatment. What gets me is that the Greek Government has put on six thousand security personnel. The US is sending two thousand Marines, and other countrys are sending armed security guards. I thought the Olympics were supposed to be, The Freindly Games?

On that note gentle readers I shall retire to my book, the one I am reading that is. The one i am writing can wait a while longer. See even books have to wait.

So Goodnight and Good Morning to you. may your dreams be filled with visions of Love, and your days with the realities of love.
