What is the obstacle keeping the United States from sending support to Darfur?
What is the obstacle keeping the United States from sending support to Darfur? I don't care what nation you happen to be from, all of our blood is red, and all of our pain goes "ouch!"
Those people are our brothers and sisters in distress, but unfortunately darkness of skin is more difficult to see in the eyes of politicians, ESPECIALLY the Congressional Black Caucus (more like the Silent Black Caucus these days!)
We cannot forget that we as black people have come from the roots of many African nations. Among those nations is Darfur. What kind of people are we, really, as a body of American citizens when we allow our ancestors, our family, to be slaughtered like a July Fourth Pig Roast?
Doing nothing is no different that shooting a stranger point blank in the back of the skull. (Whoops, did y'all hear that? Someone just got shot in the back of the head in Darfur as I was writing this. . . and that someone was a woman who had just been raped after seeing her own children go thru the same ordeal.)
As business people we need to stop talking so much about filling our own pockets, and form a coalition of INDEPENDENT black business owners who are all over the Congressional Black Caucus like a bad rash, and make our voices heard.
Don't think that we can make a difference?
Black people in America consume more goods in this country made by non-Americans than any other fashion-branded people that God ever created.
So let us all ask ourselves the quesiton: Just what can we do about it? Sit around waiting for the next bill to arrive and pretending that this never happened to blacks in America before?
But it's continuing to happen economically, educationally, and spiritually. Plus we're killing off our own community with lack of leadership from the AFRICAN AMERICAN MALE SPECIES, many of them brilliant minds, most of whom is locked behind prison doors.
So let's all do like the old song says, "If I can help SOMEBODY as I pass along, then my living shall not be in vain."
