Instability
12/12/2007 11:36:44 AM
This was inspired by something I read in a blog from Authors Den writer Irma S. Y'all should check out her writings. Very inspirational blogs and poems. One of her blogs on "Goals" caused me to write the following....hope it's a blessing to you and others whom you feel need the encouragement thru sharing Irma's site. She's a wonderful writer.
This is the worst time of year for so many people who feel they have to please others with stuffing stockings or buying gifts that will be in someone's rummage sale in 6 months. (Hey, let's keep it real!)

So why do we always beat up on ourselves when it comes to setting goals in stone that always tend to be pulverized by the everyday stressors in our lives? I'll tell you why, just like I shared with Irma which inspired this blog....

GOALS ARE NOT WRITTEN IN STONE. THEY ARE WRITTEN IN SAND!

See y'all, the crux of the problem of frustration and feeling unstable with the cursed "to-do" lists of life is something I discovered first hand.

Wake up call: Goals are never meant to be concrete. Just look at your local city or town government. Change is just a fact of natural life.

True goals are written in sand. As writers we do drafts before the final piece hits the website or the newsprint or the manuscript. If anyone has trouble understanding this, think of change and goals in this manner:

Since we are not in the same form as we were when we were itty bitty embryos, we still need nuturing. We don't look the same. Some of us have grey or silver hairs where darker ones used to be, and some are just plain glad to have any hair at all. Change will always be with us. That a fact, isn't it now?

So the goal of just living from day to day is to learn from our failures. Take any successful, truly successful person out there, and for one I can testify that the majority of true success is experienced after life has taken you for 9 tough rounds in the ring with a 6 foot ugly stick that just keeps on trying to wear you out. What's worse, sometimes that ugly stick has a Duracell battery inside with a bunch of pink bunny rabbits cheering it on. "BEAT 'EM BEAT 'EM BEAT 'EM BEAT 'EM BEAT 'EM!!!"

But you know what darlings? As hard as that ugly stick beats you down, remember, if you keep on getting up, that battery in that ugly stick is going to wear out someday. So go to the side of life's boxing ring. Take a breather. Slap a little vaseline on those cuts. Put ice on the sprains and bruises. Take a good soak in the hot tub of rejuvenation and RE-setting your goal. As long as you have your dreams set in stone, as long as you never let the winds of change break the limbs off of your spirit, there WILL come a day when you can look back and see that in spite of the bruises and the broken bones, you will end up being the victor.

"Oh sure Cynth'ya that's easy for you to say. You're successful." Oh yeah? How the H-E-double hockey sticks do you think I got to the point I am today? It was, and still is, by being around a lot of people who know what it feels like to get beat up. I don't care if it's in YTB, Women Entrepreneurs of America, working to volunteer in the community, church (yes, unfortunately some churches beat you up pretty bad) and even family gatherings where nobody understands how you feel, not even your own mama.

So the GOAL is to constantly nurture yourself, and in doing so, we can be a blessing to others.

Something else I learned about goals....they are not about self. The goal is to always be serving a need that is not our own for in doing that very thing...serving others (not being used, there's a BIG difference!) when others are served, our needs our also met because this life is just one great big circle that feeds into us like rivers feed into oceans, and all of that recycles into the air to create rain for the earth that re-feeds the brooks, streams, lakes, rivers, oceans etc. etc.

The goal of the cloud is not to be a cloud, but to house the raindrop and shield us from the heat. The goal of the raindrop is not to be a raindrop. The goal of the raindrop is to continue the pattern of life as God created it. The goal of being human is not to find out how many things we can do to achieve and impress people, but to use our talents and LISTEN to what others needs are so that we can use what God gave us to keep the cycle of life and love in a continuum that never stops, even thru eternity.

That is what I like to call call "Generational Creation." We are not always going to be around to see the outcome of the results that we plant as seeds. But the things we do definitely have an effect on people long after we have left their circle of influence. That's what we call "fond memories" and "sweet lessons" and "encouragement" on the positive side. And if you don't mind I got so inspired by just sharing with you that I think I'll blog this myself...and of course, you'll definitely be noted as the inspiration for this writing!

Much encouragement and many lessons come to you in the challenges that are blessings in disguise.
Take Care my brothers and sisters.
