Healthy Habits for Adventure
3/23/2010 5:41:57 PM
My backpacking has caused me to become healthier. I want to be, and need to be able to take care of myself so I workout like a teenager. I have relatives that have retired and just sat down in front of the TV and stayed there. For the rest of my days (so help me if I am capable) this won’t be my life. Fate always has its’ way of course, but I’ll tell you; I’ll be totally out of steam before this happens.
Now my kids (30 something) have grown and are busy with lifestyles, family and work. It’s hard for us to connect for a trek. We bust out when we’re able and actually going in May this year on another grueling section of the Bruce Trail, but I want more. At 60 years old I feel that I’m in the best shape of my life and want to just go!
Luckily my wife Pam who is only 55 is starting to talk about trekking with me. In the past there was no way that she could even think about it. She used to be way overweight and unable to participate. Her whole life has been about dieting…gaining and losing weigh…then putting it back on. It has truly been a rollercoaster ride for her. A couple of years back we hiked Point Pelee Park which was quite mild. But that was about as strenuous an activity as she could endure.
Miraculously, this last year she lost about 90 pounds with a great product called Isagenix. Now she’s able to do most anything that she wants. I think that I’m acquiring a new backpacking partner… coming up soon. We are so into this product. I take the high protein and B vitamins path, for muscle growth, energy and overall health benefits. We just feel good all of the time and never get sick.
Ask me about it if you want to know where to get it or other stuff about it. All that I know is that it works for both of us.
For sure Pam and I will be at the Thedford Conservation Area to do some geocaching. We have one there that has had many finds. It’s is a great pastime for young or old and gets you off of the couch…but that’s another blog.
