Don't Be Somebody Else's Messenger

"If it's negative, don't come tellin' me what someone else said about me!"
I hate when someone comes and tells me what somebody else said about me. Don't be their messenger. If it's negative, tell them to come see me! Your being the messenger undermines your credibility and comes across as if YOU are trying to make me the issue yourself.
The only time you should be the messenger is if you are speaking in behalf of a young child or if so many different people have a similar complaint. These circumstances are understandable. Otherwise, follow the protocol. That "he say, she say" stuff is not grown man behavior.
