Friday again at Low Arvie!
6/24/2010 9:04:26 PM
As you know, Friday is my favourite day and here it is again! No latin - that has finished for the summer - but this afternoon, I shall be laughingly learning Spanish again with the Dorothys.(se previous blogs about Fridays) I say 'laughingly' bewcause that is what we do most of the time. Although I must admit that some of the time I am laughing at them rather than with them. They are all 83 year old ladies but sometimes turn into catty 13 year olds! But I love them all.

Yesterday brought its own crisis to Low Arvie. We don't seem to have a day without at the moment. In the morning I was cleaning the house (don't faint) and R was collecting the bales, when we had visitors. It was Stephen from Lincolnshire in England. He had brought my new book to be signed. He and his wife have called in two or three times before after seeing us on TV and buying my first book. He raves about our lifestyle and my books! We had coffee and a pleasant hour with them and then went back to our respective chores.

When Richard got back to the tractor, he somehow managed to drop the ignition key into the mechanism of the operating levers, where is promptly disappeared. He took the casing off and we poked about with sticks and even rolled the tractor forward to see if it would drop out, but there was no sign of it anywhere. Whie I carried on looking, R fetched his container of three thousand (you think I'm exaggerating - I'm not!) spare keys from the workshop and proceeded to try EVERY SINGLE ONE in the ignition. He is a consummate hoarder, not just of his own sixty-four years of possessions but anyone else's that he can find and our barns are full of all his 'just in case, you never know' stuff. A lot of it is his father's 'just in case' stuff and he was born in 1904 and was also a hoarder, so you can tell that most of it is old, dirty and (in my opinion) worthless rubbish.

Anyway, back to the story, when R had tried all the keys and found that none of them fitted (which I could have told him before he started, but held my tongue). I rang the dealer and discovered that all tractors in that series have the same key and it was simply a matter of buying a new one! I think this is a bit silly, that you can just go and drive anyone's tractor with your key, but it was very convenient for us yesterday. R went off to Dumfries (16 miles each way) and came back with two new keys. By then the afternoon was almost over and it was time to get ready to go for our weekly meal in Pringles (both books) with Graham (both books).

What with this holdup and the drama with Zoe the day before, it means that the bale collection has been slower than usual and there are still 24 to bring home. However the weather is still dry and so these should be done today - providing no more crises occur!

I must just mention the Isner-Mahut match - what a marathon that was. It seemed as if it would go on forever!

Well, must go and get the day underway.

Take care

Lxx

PS Forgot to mention that Rhiannon, my little Dalbeattie Maths student passed the first part of her test - I was so pleased that she managed it!
