Poetry of Esther Durocher: Nothing at All

The cadence of this poem reminds me of a ditty that my mother used to chant.
"Yesterday upon a stair
I saw a man who wasn't there
He wasn't there again today
Gee, I wish he'd go away"
There was an old woman
Named nothing at all
This little old woman
Was exceedingly small
She did not eat
Nor did she drink
How did this woman live, do you think?
The little old woman
Climbed the trees
She floated around on the summer breeze
She walked in the water, but did not sink
She skirted the precipice, all 'round the brink
She climbed the mountains
There were none too tall
For this old woman was nothing at all
