New Year 2012 1/2/2012 1:55:19 PM It was 10:15 pm and I’m late for the New Year’s Eve party at Greater Trumps. I see people dancing and the crowd seemed to be in anticipation of the New Year. I found parking quite a ways of. So as I approach the bar, the music was blaring while my friends and extended acquaintances swing, wiggle, jump and shimmy to it. There were no fireworks, although a balloon made from hot air takes off the neighboring bar, The Back Stage. There was no time to even talk. It’s dancing, dancing and dancing. Janice, the bar maid that night, had only one dance. The rest of the night, she was serving customers and had no time to clean tables. Those who smoke cigarettes take their break outside. Thank heavens, the weather was fair and cool, about 45 degrees.
Bridget and Ryan were there in their hip clothes. Mike and Stacy were in their black outfit. Kimmy was in jeans (and had two male acquaintances with her that night.) And I said “hi” and greeted friends – Ted, Carol, Bryan, Sam, Tim, Tim and all other acquaintances – a Happy New Year. Hope was busy dancing and helping out Janice at the same time.
New Year came. Team Skunk (the group comprising Ryan, Bridget, Mike, Stacy, Kimmy and me) had the countdown and declared that it was New Year. So everyone toasted their cups of champagne, kissed and hugged everyone within sight.
When the party winded down at about 12:45am, we helped out, somewhat, with the tables and chairs and decided to bring the party to Mike’s place. Bridget settled on a chair while I settled on a couch, on the porch. We talked about the silent neighbors of Mike. (Mike and Stacy lives next door to a cemetery.) I just remained silent and sip on my Hamm’s beer. As I sat chillin’ and listening to their conversation, the subject matter turned to adoptions and biological parents.
Mike’s father was apparently adopted. I didn’t know this. So let me get this right. Mike’s father’s mother got pregnant with him and allowed him to be adopted since she did not marry the guy. When Mike’s father’s adopted parent died, Mike’s father, because he was born in Oregon was allowed to see his birth certificate and thus contact his biological mother. So a bunch of letters went out. And initially, Mike’s father’s mother denied that she was his mother until such time that her daughter said that it was alright to let secrets be revealed. So his mother contacted Mike’s father and thus, his father saw his biological mother. Then Mike said, “You see, his mother family had 5 boys and 1 girl. And my dad’s family has 5 boys and 1 girl. Isn’t that weird?”
Ryan’s was much simpler. Ryan’s father got his high school girlfriend pregnant. So they got the baby for adoption. When the baby’s (now a grown man with four kids) parents died, he tried contacting his biological parents. Apparently, his biological mother died but the man she married was best friend with his biological father. Soon they met and now Rick, Ryan’s father, had three sons – the baby, Ryan, and Rob. It’s quite amazing that there are four generations of men in Ryan’s family – Ryan’s grandfather, father, their generation, and his nephews and nieces.
So there you are, a Happy New Year, indeed! I have drinking, dancing and stories about adoption. And I ended my day at about 2:30am, for at that time, it was time to go home and say nighty-night. As to you, my dear reader, Happy New Year to y’all!
