Being (almost) Late 1/5/2012 10:01:03 PM It was like déjà vu, I woke up almost late, again. AGAIN! I thought that I could wake up late, about eightish am. But I woke up at about 9:15 am.
There was a history to all of these. I spent time at Greater Trumps late into the night, past 12 midnight. So, I cannot possibly wake up at 6 am every Thursday. Why Thursday? Because on Thursday, we have a meeting at my office at 8am; and I do not want to disappoint my boss by being late. Besides, he is very strict when it comes to tardiness. That was why when I hang around Greater Trumps beyond 12 midnight and I leave my television on when I go to sleep, I put on a strong mental note to wake up at 6 am. I sleep shallow and with my cell phone alarm and my clock alarm, I do indeed wake up at 6 am – honestly!
One night, I went to bed with all of these safeguards. But alas, I woke up at 7:15 am. I immediately called my boss that I might be late and said that the traffic was heavy (which normally is the case.) I did not even go to shower or dressed up. I was very nervous when I called him. He then proceeded by asking me where I was going to after the meeting. I said that I would be going to Vancouver. (Vancouver, Washington was the opposite direction from where the meeting was to happen and south of Portland.) So, he said that I should not attend the meeting but rather I should prepare for my appointment in Vancouver. Whew! (The meeting in Vancouver was to be at 10:00 am.)
Well, today, my meeting in Vancouver, apparently, was at 9:45. I woke up at 9:10 am. I should text my boss before I leave my home that I was leaving for Vancouver and as soon as I arrived at my destination. I did all that. My heart was pounding. I immediately brushed my teeth, washed my face and wet my hair; put on my clothes and packed the things I am to bring. I did not even make my bed or prayed. I stepped out of the house at about 9:25am; and I drove off at about 9:28am. When I was on the road, my oil signal began blinking, a problem I might have missed had I changed oil during the holidays – but I didn’t. So on the road; you can see me being frazzled and frantic! I prayed while I drove, observed the blinking oil signal, watched my speed and hoped that I arrived at my destination all in one piece, soundly. Soon, enough, I arrived at Vancouver, right on time.
I don’t know if there was a lesson to be learned from all these; that’s because I wanted to hang around Greater Trumps and stay up late at night and have my television on while I went to bed. It was that I just forgot to have my mental note to wake up at such time and I keep hitting my cell alarm. Forget the clock alarm. It did not work.
