Within the Truth, a Planted Lie
8/8/2010 1:12:43 AM
Often, if you pay attention, you will observe history being made ... or changed ...

I watched CNN coverage tonight as soldiers wounded in Afghanistan were flown to a hospital in Germany and then flown back home to the United States. These soldiers had been wounded by explosions, artillery and small arms fire. About two-thirds of the way into this telecast, it was noted that the soldiers had been wounded in battle protecting the Afghan people. Right there, a lie was planted in a bed of truth. Yes, they had been wounded, some of them very badly, and their bravery is not to be questioned. But, nowhere in the news is there any indication that the Afghan civilian population is coming under attack by the insurgents. I browsed the blogs coming out of Afghanistan, looking to see if we had missed something. But, no, this fight is only about insurgents attacking our soldiers, and our soldiers trying to protect themselves. So, why was that lie planted in the midst of stark truth? Perhaps it was only a bit of over-dramatization on the part of CNN script-writers, something to add a dimension of impact? It seems like a very useful lie to those who wish to justify our continued presence in the area.
