It’s been quite a week, hasn’t it? The stock market crashing and all. The post office about to default on billions of dollars of debts. Apple has more cash on hand than the US Treasury. The bad news goes on and on. The turn of events got me to thinking about the Great Depression and the role the entertainment industry played during that period.
One of the most positive contributions of that time was comedy--The Marx Brothers, Burns & Allen, Jack Benny, the banter and dancing of Astaire and Rogers. When times get tough, a good laugh may be our best hope for the energy to move forward.
Thinking along those lines, I remembered some of the wonderfully funny and upbeat authors I’ve met in the last year. I decided to fight all the doom and gloom with a roster of comedy stories to raise the spirits.
