For all of us 'up on our rooftops'
The Roofers' Rap!
Aheminem!: Name is Fred; I’m fixin’ your shed; Puttin’ down a shingle and killin’ it dead! Hammer time!! Ok, I’ll stop – that was pretty bad – and just a tad outdated! It’s amazing the thoughts that can spring to mind with just the sound of a work crew on a nearby roof! I don’t think I should be driving in this frame of mind! They really did have a pretty good beat going, though – I wonder if that was on purpose?
I’m afraid my rhythm would definitely not be as smooth; If I was handed a hammer and a bunch of nails, the song would be interspersed with a steady chorus of woops!, shoots!, ouches! and darns! – and then I might actually hit one of those nails! And you would probably have to hypnotize me to get me up on a roof in the first place! How can they walk around so easily up there?! The crazy part is, these nimble-footed guys are probably the same ones who balk at getting out on a dance floor – amazing! I’d hate to be accused of giving those roofers a ‘bad rap’ (sorry! couldn’t resist just one more!), but with all of that rhythm and their light-footed ease, they’d be pretty hard to match! It brings to mind the song, ‘The Log Drivers’ Waltz’.
I guess we all have our roof tops – bravely going where a lot of people wouldn’t dare to go – firemen, paramedics, nurses, teachers, care-givers or babysitting grandparents! We catch a glimpse of them in their element, and think: How can they walk around so easily up there?
I think that we should all have another go at the dance floor; take our unique natural rhythm and let it flow with all of the others – fearlessly, and respectfully - up on life’s common rooftop. Whatever your cap – give a rap, tap, tap!
