Update on My writing and Other matters

My plans regarding my up-coming speaking commitment at the Republic Bar, Hobart and some special events in my life.
I am scheduled to speak at the Republic Bar on Sunday 3rd of July. This is my first official reading and speaking as an invited guest. I shall be reading an excerpt from chapter 21 in my memoir "Gaining a Sense of Self."The chapter is called"Thumbs up in Tassie". I chose this chapter because I shall be speaking to a Tasmanian audience.I have been allotted 20 minutes. The chapter details my first hitchhiking trip in 1962 accompanied by my friend Peggy. The hard part is - what to leave out! It would be great to start with a joke! In the meantime I have blown up a photo that a person took showing us with out thumbs up just before we caught the plane back to Sydney. We look such a bedraggled pair but we are grinning from ear to ear. I wanted the photo to be included in my book but it was rejected.
On the home front: last Sunday was mostly a grey, rainy day with the sun coming out briefly before sunset. I decides to stretch my legs and walk up to the back garden to inspect some Proteas, when I spied a wallaby right in my path. It looked so sweet. I slowly walked up to it and the marsupial did not move. We looked at each other for about five minutes. When I momentarily glanced away it had vanished. I wondered if I had dreamed the encounter but when I heard the sound of thumping steps and saw the nearby bushes moving, I realised it was for real. In all our thirty years of living in this house I have never been so close to a wallaby. It was a miracle.
